Australia: Agricultural Quarantine Training Program in Australia for the Iraq Ministry of Agriculture, AusAID/RAFI, 2006
One way that Australia is contributing towards the humanitarian and reconstruction needs of Iraq is through the Rehabilitation Assistance Facility Iraq (RAFI).
In late 2005, AusAID requested that RAFI manage a training course for 17 officials from the Iraq Ministry of Agriculture. The participants were quarantine specialists with Governorate level responsibility at various land borders, as well as from Basrah and Baghdad. The program involved site visits in three states, as well as a significant amount of technical training inputs from the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS). World Wide was responsible for the overall management of the training program, and for designing the in-Australia site visits in ACT, NSW and SA, as well as making all associated arrangements for technical inputs, welfare inputs and logistics in Australia.
