Indonesia: Legal Document Retrieval Systems Project, AusAID/IASTP, 2005 - 06

World Wide worked with Monash International Pty Ltd to design and deliver a two-stage training program on Legal Document Retrieval Systems (LDRSs) for senior members of the Indonesian Office of the State Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat. The Cabinet Secretariat (SetKab) is responsible for Indonesian laws and legislative instruments and for the storage and promulgation of legislation.

Stage 1 of the training was a Comparative Study Tour to Australia involving senior decision-makers from the Cabinet Secretariat. The SetKab officials were given access to a range of legal document retrieval systems in Australia, followed by a series of facilitated training sessions and workshops during which the comparative and relative benefits of each document retrieval system were considered. The course in Australia provided participants with the skills and knowledge required to establish, utilize and maintain a Legal Document Retrieval System.

Stage 2 involved training a group of functional specialists in Australia, provided for those senior staff who would subsequently use the upgraded LDRS in Indonesia. Participants included legal drafters, legal analysts, legal librarians, archive administrators, IT administrators and procurement officers. Stage 2 also included ‘hands-on’ training sessions in Australia to provide participants with experience in developing and using a LDRS.
