Papua New Guinea: Bachelor of Nursing Conversion Degree Programs, AusAID/PATTAF, 2000 - 06

This project involved the delivery of a Monash University Bachelor of Nursing Conversion Degree by distance education for three cohorts of 43, 40 and 60 students respectively. The program was successfully delivered using a mixed-mode methodology to upgrade qualifications of nurse educators in schools of nursing, clinical supervisors in hospitals and clinics, and National Department of Health headquarters’ staff. The program supported priority reform areas of the PNG National Health Plan and Medium Term Expenditure Framework.

The pedagogical methodology included intensive in-country workshops at the commencement of each of the 4 semesters, and tutor-supported clusters in 11 sites. The program also included a capacity building component with the National Department of Health, the University of PNG, and other stakeholders in nurse education, to build capacity to deliver a nursing conversion degree in PNG.
