WW involved in the Philippines Education Sector Advisory Group
Education is a high priority for the Philippine Government, and is an area where Australia has a strong record of achievement. Basic education is of particular concern, given its long term impacts on individual income-earning potential and, more broadly, national economic development and stability.
Throughout May and June 2007, World Wide has been engaged in work for the Philippines Education Sector Advisory Group, which is supported by AusAID. This has involved a review of the implementation of the UNICEF Sixth Country Programme for Children (CPC-6) in the Philippines. UNICEF and the Government of the Philippines are implementing the CPC-6 from 2005-2009. This Programme plans to reduce disparities in basic indicators of the Child Friendly Movement’s focus areas, which cover a range of areas and issues including education, as well as health, nutrition, Early Child Care and Development (ECCD) and protection.
Since August 2006, UNICEF has organised a series of studies to assess the performance of this Programme, and to examine options to improve implementation to better achieve outcomes.
