World Wide office building conservation work continues

World Wide relocated to its heritage-listed office building, in Currie Street Adelaide, during late 2004. Since then, the inside has been extensively renovated in line with what a modern office needs while retaining the unique 19th Century internal features.

The external western wall has required repair and re-pointing for several years and this work has now commenced. Working closely with architect David Kilpatrick and the Adelaide City Council, approval was given to completely repoint the western wall, using authentic materials and specialist craftsmen. In past years, there have been several attempts to repair the wall, using different (and often unsuitable) materials, concrete and methods. This latest repair, using a contractor specialising in heritage buildings, has involved the wall being stripped back and re-pointed with original materials, bringing it back to as close as possible to original condition. The builders’ advice is that the western wall will now be suitable for resisting the effects of weather for between 30 and 50 years.
