Senior Delegation on Human Rights Policy – July to August '09
In July 2009 World Wide successfully delivered a program for a high-level Iraqi delegation on Human Rights Policy. The rationale for a visit to Australia by 16 Director Generals was to provide high-level policy discussions and technical advice in support of the GOI efforts to effectively meet its responsibility to promote and uphold basic human rights, including the development of Iraq’s National Human Rights Plan of Action. The SDHRP program represented a unique opportunity to provide a forum for high-level discussion on human rights policy, direct support to Iraq’s human rights policy development, as well as assist in defining the trajectory of Australian assistance in the future. The SDHRP program follows on from the successful outcomes of five previous human rights training activities in Australia starting with an initial HR program conducted in October 2004.
The program was an Australian Government, AusAID initiative. World Wide staff Paul Tippett, Kate Whelan and Janne Laukkala were involved in managing the project.
