A 1-month Project Identification and Development Course was conducted in Nauru for participants from 13 Government of Nauru agencies and Nauru’s peak NGO body. The course was designed to facilitate the preparation of project proposals for submission to the National Development Committee prior to approval for funding either from the Government budget or via donor assistance. Lead Trainer, Cathy Deane (one of World Wide’s 3 Directors) was joined by Mr Jessie Ponce, an international development consultant based in the Philippines. They were supported by during the 4-week program by Mr Nelson Tamaki and Mr Sam Grundler, staff from the Development Policy and Planning Division of the Nauru Department of Finance, and National Planning Consultant Mr Paula Uluinaceva.

Participants prepared documentation for priority projects under Nauru’s National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS). A total of 11 project proposals were prepared, with each project team producing analyses of the current situation, stakeholders, problems, objectives and risk. A monitoring and evaluation framework was also prepared for each project which included performance indicators and identified data sources to verify indicators. At the end of the program, 22 participants were jointly presented with a Certificate by the Acting President of Nauru, Hon. Dr Kieran Keke and Ms Robyn Jenkins Australia’s Consul General and Special Representative.
